Eustory
Eustory is a European network of history competitions for students in full-time non-university eduction between the ages of 14 and 21. The competitions have been held annually since 2007, and its main pedagogical tool is the motto “learning through research”. The aim is to foster critical thinking, and to make first-hand research into living history the essential tool for "understanding differences and overcoming divisions."
Eustory is a Europe-wide network of more than 20 not-for-profit organisations each of whom organise the competition in their country. The network is sponsored by Körber-Stiftung, Hamburg. Other members include: Fondazione per la Scuola dela Comagnia di San Paolo (Turin); the recent Joint winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Memorial (Mocow); Fundacja Ośrodka KARTA (Warsaw); Fondation Roi Baudouin (Brussels); Den norske historiske forening – HIFO, (Kristiansand); Association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” (Lviv).
The real Maestranza organises the competition in Spain workng in partnership with “Hesperides” – the Andalusian Association of Teachers and researchers in History and Geograhy. In 2013 the Portuguese Association of Teachers of History (APH) joined the network and Eustroy Spain was renamed Eustory Iberia and the geographical reach of the competition widened to include the Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries of America. Over the years the competion has consolidated its position as the leading history competition network for pre-university students.
The winning students and teachers each year receive monetary prizes. The students are also invited to participate in one of the Eustory Academies which take place in various European cities bringing together young people from all over the continent.
