International History of the Serranía de Ronda Conference III
The Institute for Ronda and the Serranía Studies and the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda have announced International History of the Serranía de Ronda Conference III, which will be called "From the Ancien Régime to the Present Day (17th-20th Centuries)."

The academic committee established for its organization is chaired by Sergio Ramírez González, an art history professor at the University of Málaga. From November 14 to 17, 2019, the institution's Graduation Hall will host a large group of both national and international specialists in the areas of academia and research.

This third conference is focused on the early and late modern periods, two eras that, together, were critical to the current configuration of the city of Ronda and its Serranía. It was a time marked by the fundamental milestone of Ronda's urban expansion, going beyond its old medieval and early modern site, mainly due to the construction of the Puente Nuevo. This infrastructure will constitute not only the physical link between the old city and the modern urban area that will emerge but also a real bridge between the two aforementioned periods. A 1934 painting of Ronda's three bridges by local artist Joaquín Peinado will be the conference's image.

Eleven Presentations

The Conference is part of the collaboration agreement between the two organizations to hold biannual meetings. The first one was held November 13-15, 2015, and was called "Occupations by Prehistoric Societies and Antiquity in the Serranía de Ronda." The academic committee was chaired by José Ramos Muñoz (University of Cádiz), and the conference had a total of eleven presentations, seventeen memorandums, and three roundtables.

The second one, held November 17-19, 2017, was called "From al-Andalus to the Early Modern Period (8th-16th Centuries). " The academic committee was chaired by Virgilio Martínez Enamorado (University of Málaga), and the conference had a total of sixteen presentations, twenty-four memorandums, and four roundtables. It also had a presentation on the minutes of Conference I and two double issues of the magazine "Takurunna: Annual Studies on Ronda and the Serranía."

Through 2021

Due to the large number of researchers who study these two important historical periods, the third conference will be a day longer and have more conferences, memorandums, and roundtables. The cycle will end in 2021, with a conference focused on geography.
