La obra, fechada hacia 1774, pertenece al periodo de madurez del artista y representa al monarca en una composici\u00f3n que conjuga solemnidad, naturalidad y claridad clasicista, caracter\u00edsticas que definen la est\u00e9tica ilustrada de su tiempo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gonz\u00e1lez Ruiz fue uno de los principales agentes en la institucionalizaci\u00f3n de las artes en la Espa\u00f1a borb\u00f3nica. Formado en el taller del pintor de c\u00e1mara Michel-Ange Houasse y perfeccionado en Francia e Italia entre 1732 y 1737, su trayectoria se consolid\u00f3 tras su regreso a Madrid. Fue miembro fundador y director de Pintura de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realacademiabellasartessanfernando.com\/\">Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando<\/a>, de la que m\u00e1s tarde ser\u00eda director general, y pintor de c\u00e1mara de Fernando VI y Carlos III. Colecci\u00f3n Real Maestranza de Caballer\u00eda de Ronda<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El retrato de Carlos III que conserva la Real Maestranza de Ronda muestra al monarca en actitud de mando, revestido con armadura y portando el bast\u00f3n de general. Sobre su pecho lucen las insignias de las principales \u00f3rdenes militares de la monarqu\u00eda: el Tois\u00f3n de Oro, el Saint-Esprit de Francia y el San Genaro de N\u00e1poles, junto al collar de leones, la insignia de la Inmaculada y la banda azul y blanca de la Real Orden de Carlos III, instituida por el propio rey en 1771 como la m\u00e1s alta distinci\u00f3n del Estado. El fondo arquitect\u00f3nico, con pilastra monumental y cortinaje dorado, sit\u00faa la figura en un escenario de autoridad y solemnidad. La serenidad del gesto, la precisi\u00f3n del dibujo y el equilibrio del color refuerzan la dignidad moral del retratado y evidencian la madurez t\u00e9cnica de Antonio Gonz\u00e1lez Ruiz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La obra de Gonz\u00e1lez Ruiz toma como referencia el retrato de Carlos III <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodelprado.es\/coleccion\/obra-de-arte\/carlos-iii\/1e754324-0855-42b8-8430-732df3b54b5c\">realizado por Anton Raphael Mengs en 1767 (Museo del Prado)<\/a>. Mengs, Primer Pintor de C\u00e1mara del monarca, desempe\u00f1\u00f3 un papel decisivo en la definici\u00f3n del lenguaje oficial de la monarqu\u00eda ilustrada, un modelo que Gonz\u00e1lez Ruiz asumi\u00f3 y adapt\u00f3 con rigor acad\u00e9mico. Ambos artistas colaboraron en la construcci\u00f3n de una imagen regia que deb\u00eda reflejar no solo la autoridad y el rango del soberano, sino tambi\u00e9n su virtud, su racionalidad y su compromiso con las artes y la reforma cultural del reino. En este retrato, Gonz\u00e1lez Ruiz traduce a la pintura los ideales morales y est\u00e9ticos del Neoclasicismo, sustituyendo el esplendor barroco por una composici\u00f3n ordenada, una expresi\u00f3n contenida y una dignidad serena que encarna los valores de la Ilustraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El valor de esta obra constituye un testimonio de la relaci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica entre Carlos III y la Maestranza ronde\u00f1a. Durante su reinado se consolid\u00f3 el v\u00ednculo institucional con la Corona, que condeci\u00f3 a la Maestranza ronde\u00f1a los mismos privilegios que a las Maestranzas de Sevilla y Granada y nombr\u00f3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rmcr.org\/2020\/12\/17\/sala-de-historia-de-la-real-maestranza-de-caballeria-de-ronda-retrato-del-infante-d-gabriel-de-borbon-i-el-pintor\/\">Hermano Mayor al Infante Don Gabriel, hijo del monarca<\/a>. Este gesto sell\u00f3 la protecci\u00f3n real y situ\u00f3 a la corporaci\u00f3n bajo el amparo directo de la dinast\u00eda borb\u00f3nica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El esp\u00edritu reformador del reinado de Carlos III coincidi\u00f3 con el periodo de mayor dinamismo de la Maestranza. Bajo su influencia se desarrollaron importantes obras p\u00fablicas en Ronda, como el Puente Nuevo, la Alameda del Tajo o la propia Plaza de Toros, cuya construcci\u00f3n se inici\u00f3 hacia 1775 y cuya portada principal, terminada en 1788, se remata con el escudo real de Carlos III, s\u00edmbolo material del v\u00ednculo entre el monarca y la instituci\u00f3n.
